FS DARKER LOCATION Vancouver Roundhouse Comm Center as Port Gallery
The Roundhouse is located in the heart of Yaletown at 181 Roundhouse Mews. It’s a short block to the boardwalk along False Creek and the marinas. There is also a small park that sits at its entrance.
The filming for Fifty Shades Darker on featured the Port Gallery with Jose’s art work on display inside. They filmed the scenes on March 23 and 24. It proved to be a rainy evening on the 23rd so the filming that night took place inside the Roundhouse building. On the 24th the weather cooperated and they were able to film at the front entrance of the gallery and side alleyway. The production crew had erected several large lights on the roof of the Roundhouse buildings to provide more lighting to the entrance for filming.
They filmed with Jamie, Dakota and Victor Rasuk as Jose’. There were several cars lined up parked at the front entrance including a taxi cab. The outdoor front of the building was decorated with banners for Port Gallery and to one side several signs for Seattle businesses were in the windows. The first outdoor filming was of Dakota arriving by car to the gallery alone, then they filmed Jamie and Dakota leaving the front double doors and turning right towards the corner alleyway. The filming then moved to capture Jamie taking Dakotas arm and leading her around into the alleyway corner. He pushed her towards the wall and they shared a kiss. They rehearsed with Dakota wearing her trademark UGGS, then she switched to high heels for the actual filming. Several fans were on hand to enjoy watching the filming.
The day I went back to visit the location it was a beautiful sunny day with lots of people around enjoying the area. Inside the building I was able to spot several portable rolling display walls that were used for the filming of the gallery. All of the lights and signs that were added by the production were already removed from the area.

ROUNDHOUSE HISTORY
Long admired for its straight forward industrial beauty, the Roundhouse is a building of major historical significance to the City of Vancouver both from an architectural and a social perspective. Originally the Roundhouse was comprised of a cluster of buildings whose function was to house and service the great steam locomotives of the day. The people who worked in these buildings were involved with the railway link that played such a central part in the growth of Vancouver.
Finally in March 1997 Concord turned this $9 million facility over to the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation to own and operate, under the able guidance and direction of Coordinator Derek Simons. Its features include a black box Performance Centre, an exhibition hall, woodworking, pottery and dance studios, a full size gymnasium, a cafe area, and various multi-purpose spaces. The architecture and design of the refurbished Roundhouse is stunning.
You can read about the history of the facility at their website Roundhouse.ca.
